A script for all to know about CBROA, involve and improve.
The formation of Canara Bank Officers' Association in 70s was a MEMORABLE EVENT.
Equallent to that of CBOA, and equally with the able assistance, support and guidance of CBOA, by the then General Secretary Sri B. Sudhar Shetty, CANARA BANK RETIRED OFFICERS' ASSOCIATION took birth during the year 1996 at Bangalore. Earlier no such forum started for the retired employees even though there were employees and officers getting retired in due course.
Late Sri H S Gajanan Rao,(Formar General Secretary & President) as President and
Sri P. Sanjeeva Rao (Formar Dy General Secretary & Central laison Officer for CBOA) as General Secretary flagged off the Retired Officers Movement in Canara Bank for the Officers community.
It was a herculian task to gather the retired officerss under one basket. But the task was completed very successfully single handedly by Sri P. Sanjeeva Rao as Founder General Secretary. The rest is history. When during 1996 hardly there were nearly 1000 retired officers existed, many with Pension and rest without Pension. However, nearly 600 officers got enrolled from Scale I to VII. Thereafter during 2001, under SVRS many opted out, but the response was poor to join the force - CBROA.
CBROA invested all its energy and tried hard to increase the "Basket of Officer Retirees" with more and more members. Today, we are more than 3700 under one roof. CBROA has membership all over India in every state.
First two conferences of CBROA was sponserd by CBOA along with their bienniel conferences, first at 1997 at Mysore and later during 1999 at Chennai. From 2001, 3rd biennial, CBROA has conducted successfuly all the conferences at different places.
At every conference, it was a spectacular event witnessed by all the retirees who were given the golden oppportunity to meet the "boy friends" from their maindan entry into our great Institution, CANARA BANK LIMITED and later as CANARA BANK. Every one cherished that such moment which was unparallel in their experience with emotions, duly provided by CBROA. 3rd Bienniel at Bangalore during 2001, 4th and 5th at Bangalore during 2004 and 2006 respectively. Hubli was the venue for the 2008, 6th, and Mysore hosted 7th bienniel during 2010.
Over the years, our demand with the management yielded certain benefits.
1. Additional Interest on Deposits to retired employees.
2. Holiday Home facility to retired employees
3. Identitycard to retired employees.
4. Improvement in "reimbersement of medical expenses" from Rs 500/-
per year to Rs 1,500/- over the years.
Certain other items like Medical Insurance to retired employees, Retired employee as trustee in Pension Fund, recognition of Retired officers Association etc remain pending. However, management has conducted structured meeting with retired emoployees recently. Our Association was the major one with more members than others to interact with Management for improvement in providing needed benefits to retired employees.
Further our demand for 'updation' of pension, 100% neutralisation of DA, Medical Insurance etc with IBA and government is an ongoing matter which are being vigoroulsy followed up. When once all these are realised, the employees who are retiring in future are assued with more benefits.
As on date there are over 20,000 pensioners consisting "Regular". "family pensioners", 'ex-gratia' and 'family ex-gratia' pensioners.
CBROA is affiliated to Retired Bank Officers' National Confederation (Regd) "RBONC" which is also functioning in the same premises. Sri P Sanjeeva Rao, former General Secreatary of CBROA is the present General Secretary of RBONC. All India Bank Retirees Fedaration and RBONC has formed "United Forum of Bank Retireed Organisation" akin to UFBO.
CBROA is ever grateful to Canara Bank Officers' Assocaiton for all the help, support and assistance being offered contineously. We have a full fledged office provided by CBOA at Bangalore in the same premises CBOA is functioning.
